Like most of us, you’ve probably been quarantined at home. Or maybe not. Either way, we’ve made it to the end of the year and the favorite activity that everyone loves(the sarcasm is thick on this one)decluttering for the New Year. I can sense the excitement and joy in your eyes as you read this. Of course there’s been enough stress for us all throughout this rocky year and you know what could make it just a little bit better? A cleared space. Space does not only include your home space, your electronic home(s) are just as important for clearance. Email and social media can also become cluttered. Clutter adds to stress you may already feel. Clutter is draining and demotivating. So, although another to do list is not one of your favorite things right now, I promise this list is short and at the end you’ll feel better for it. Let’s get started.
- Your Social Media Feeds
Social media can affect your mood, so it’s important to protect the things that you view. Whether it is a certain page, or celebrity or frenemy that you ‘keep’ up with. Sometimes it’s best to cut off visual communication with something that could cause you stress. Unfriend, Unfollow, and snooze at will. Your adjusted mood will thank you.
- Your Bedroom
Sleep is a very important part of your day. If you’re not getting enough of the right sleep, it can impact your health. So the space where you sleep should definitely be clutter free. Make it a clean and sacred space where you can unwind properly at the end of a taxing day.
- Your Closet
Do you have shoes and clothes with tags in your closet that have been there for months? It might be time to call a charity to donate those things. Did you know, you’d be helping the environment by doing so. Hmmm…a giver of clothes and a sustainer of Earth, that’s pretty cool, don’t you think?
- Your Workspace
If you are still working from home, or not, clearing your workspace can be very productive for your workday. A place for everything and everything in its place on your desk can change your life. You are more focused and less distracted and not scrambling if there’s something you need to complete a task.
- Your Schedule
Your time is your most precious commodity. With the drastic change in everyone’s schedule over the past 9 months, now more than ever it’s important to protect your time. Incorporating the word ‘No’ into your vocabulary regularly will give you a lot of your time back and save you from wasting your time.
So there you have it. These are just 5 ideas of things to declutter. The end of the year is as good a time as any to try 1 or all 5. You can actually put these into practice throughout the year, either way, decluttering your life helps you to thrive in your life.
